Wireman’s Licence
Who qualifies for a Wireman’s License?
A student interested in enrolling, must be a qualified artisan in one of the following trades:
- Electrician
- Lift Mechanic
- Millwright
- Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Technician
- Armature Winder
Minimum requirements:
- Qualified Artisan
- Grade 12/N3 Engineering science
- Grade 12/N3 Mathematics (Not Mathematic Literacy)
- Grade 12/N3 Electrical trade theory or technology
- (Subjects on N2 equals single phase tester)
- (Subjects on N3 equals three phase installation electrician)
Masters Wireman’s Licence (Specialised Codes for Hazardous Installations)
Minimum requirements:
- National Diploma (N4-N6): Engineering Studies (Electrical Engineering) with Electrotechnics N6 or Industrial Electronics N6 or Fault-finding and Protective devices N6 as a subject in the N6 Diploma +
- Wireman’s Licence three phase (minimum 2 years) +
- Trade test qualification as an Electrician three phase +
- Paper 1 & Paper 2 Specialised codes
Single-Phase Tester
He / She must be in position of a N2 certificate for a single-phase tester with the following subjects:
- Mathematics N2
- Engineering science 2
- Electrical Trade Theory N2
- Choice Subject (Industrial Electronics N2)

Three-Phase Installation Electrician

MDDOP
Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice
It is a tertiary Diploma for Drawing Office Manager
MDDOP stands for Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice. It is a tertiary Diploma for Drawing Office Managers.
This course is now given as a Distance Education course by NTEK College and runs concurrent with all the other N-courses. We advised that not more than two subjects are taken in one term on MDDOP.
Prerequisites to register for this course:
- N3 engineering drawing or GR12 (Std 10) Technical drawing or Gr 12 Engineering Graphics & Design.
- Computer literacy.
- Student must have done a CAD course and is acquainted with standard functionalities of the applications in any CAD program.
This is not a short course but a National MDDOP Diploma under the auspices of the DHET.
Choice of subjects:
All the subjects in Group 1 are compulsory. Subject 1 is a written paper and there are 3 drawing subjects in group 1 which are all done on the drawing board.
In Group 2 the student needs to choose 3 subjects of 4 which is done on a Laptop computer using CAD.
PLEASE NOTE:
The student must have the following functional hardware and software:
- Laptop with functional CAD application installed (CADDIE) can be supplied by NTEK.
- Portable printer to print CAD drawings
GROUP 1
(All subject compulsory)
- Mechanical & Drawing office orientation – Written 3-hour paper
- General Draughting – 4-hour drawing paper
- Pictorial Draughting – 4-hour drawing paper
- Technical Illustrations – 4-hour drawing paper
GROUP 2 (CAD)
(Subject 1 is compulsory and choose 3 subjects from 2 – 5. Subject 6 is optional)
- Computer Aided Draughting – CAD 3-hour Computer
- Mechanical Draughting – CAD 4-hour Computer
- Building Draughting – CAD 4-hour Computer
- Electrical Draughting – CAD 4-hour Computer
- Structural Steel Detailing – CAD 4-hour Computer
